Membership in the British Columbia Food Protection Association
can put you in charge of your career. From quick access to cutting edge technical
and scientific information, becoming a Member is your link to the food safety
industry and a clearinghouse of resources. Increase the knowledge and ideas
you can implement in your work environment.
Membership consists of government, education and industry professionals, including
equipment manufacturers and other allied suppliers. The Association has over
200 members working to advance food safety throughout British Columbia.
The categories of membership in BCFPA include Regular, Student, Special, Honorary Life, Retired and Sustaining. Sustaining Membership provides organizations and corporations the opportunity to ally themselves with the British Columbia Food Protection Association in pursuit of advancing food safety across our province. This partnership entitles companies to become members of an association affiliated with the leading food safety organization in the world while supporting various educational programs that might not otherwise be possible. Organizations who lead the way in new technology and development join BCFPA as sustaining members.
Regular members of BCFPA shall be those persons who are engaged in milk, food or environmental inspection, or the laboratory control of, or the administration of such function, or engaged in research or education work relating to any aforesaid function or otherwise interested in the objectives of BCFPA. Regular members may attend meetings of BCFPA and shall be entitled to vote and hold office.
Students pursuing technical certificates or undergraduate or graduate degrees at technical institutes, colleges or universities in a food safety related field of study are entitled to membership in BCFPA at one-half the dues of regular members. Student members, with the exception of the appointed Student Coordinator, may attend meetings of BCFPA and be accorded privilege of the floor, but shall not be entitled to vote, may not hold office in BCFPA, but may serve on committees and as appointed representatives of BCFPA. A student member shall become eligible for full membership on January 1 of the year following graduation.
Special reduced rate memberships (such as reciprocal memberships
with other professional associations) can be negotiated by the Executive Board
upon the advice of the Committee on Membership.
Note: As we are a young organization, the Executive Board will consider applications
for Special Membership from individuals who have retired from their careers
and are no longer receiving compensation for work relating to the objectives
of the BCFPA. These special members are entitled to membership in BCFPA at one-half
the dues of regular members but shall not be entitled to vote or hold office
but may serve on committees, as Affiliate delegates and as appointed representatives
of BCFPA.
Honorary membership may be conferred on a member of BCFPA, who, on account of their substantial contributions to the objectives of BCFPA, have been nominated for consideration by a member(s) and confirmed by the Executive Board.. Honorary life members shall not be required to pay dues, shall not be entitled to hold office, but may attend meetings of BCFPA, be accorded the privilege of the floor and entitled to vote.
Retired members who are no longer receiving compensation for work relating to the objectives of the BCFPA and who have been regular or sustaining members for at least three (3) years are entitled to membership at one-half the dues of regular members. Retired members shall be entitled to vote and hold office and may serve on committees, as Affiliate delegates and as appointed representatives of BCFPA.
